Qualitative and quantitative research implements scientific methods of assessment in the evaluation of topics.  The surveys, case studies and naturalistic observation are the dissimilar methods applied in the assessment of the research studies. The aim of the editorial is to assess the implementation of the methods in data collection.

            Random sampling uses subsets of statistical population or samples who have equal opportunities of being chosen. On the other hand, representative sampling focuses on the population which reflects the different members of the entire population.

            Surveys are approaches using questionnaire or interviews for the collection of data from the different people. Researchers increase the validity of the findings by random sampling of subjects. Focus can be on a certain type of subjects. The dictation of the type of people to be assessed forces the implementation of a representative sampling.

            Secondly, Case studies help in offering intensive study of the subject.   Case study method offers the in-depth knowledge of the subject.  The case studies focus on representative sampling. The subjects are assessed on the regard of the distinct characteristics linking the subjects. Social desirability can be easily accessed through case studies. The random sampling is used in case studies to find different subjects without bias.

            Thirdly, Naturalistic observations entail the assessment of subjects through observation. The researcher can use both random and representative sampling for the assessment of the writings. Naturalistic observations are implemented for the use of the real-life situation assessments.

            In conclusion, surveys, case studies and naturalistic observation are different in assessment.  The surveys collect data from many people, while case studies will focus on obtaining in-depth information from an individual or sample. The Naturalistic observations require an un-biased observation for the different issues affecting the society or subject.
