Questions

Pick ONE of following three questions to answer. Each answer must be a minimum of three paragraphs to a maximum of 6 paragraphs long with a five sentence minimum per paragraph. YOU MUST SUPPORT YOUR ANSWERS WITH A MINIMUM OF THREE DIRECT QUOTES  W/ PAGE NUMBERS FROM THE PLAY ITSELF TO RECEIVE FULL POINTS. PLEASE INDICATE THE NUMBER OF THE QUESTION YOU'RE ANSWERING. Essay MUST be saved in PDF format and submitted through SafeAssign.

 1) The playwright, Paula Vogel, has made it clear that this play is about "being a survivor" and NOT about being a victim.  She also said, "My play dramatizes the gifts we receive from the people that hurt us" and that "[Li'l Bit] received the gift of how to survive." Do you agree or disagree that Li'l Bit presents herself and her story as a survivor rather than a victim?  Did Vogel achieve her goal?  Why or why not?

2) In the opening essay to the play, Jacobus notes (and reinforces what the playwright has said) that "Although he is a predator, Uncle Peck is not necessarily a villain in the play."  Does the play support this identity for Uncle Peck?  Why or why not? USE quotes from the PLAY itself to support your answer, rather than the aforementioned essay.

3) The "Greek Chorus" in the play allows for a number of extra characters.  These characters range from family members to peers.  They also identify with both of the main characters, Li'l Bit and Uncle Peck, in their own ways.  Pick two of these characters and discuss how they identify with one or the other of the two main characters.  Do you agree with the way they identify them?  Why or why not?

The only source is the play itself nothing else.
